What types of photos can you digitize?
I can digitize most common formats, including printed photographs, slides, and negatives. This includes color and black-and-white images, as well as photos from different eras and sizes. If you’re unsure about a specific format, you can always ask before getting started.
Do I need photo restoration, or is digitizing enough?
Many photos only need to be digitized. Scanning preserves the image as it exists today and makes it easy to store, back up, and share. Restoration is optional and typically only needed for photos with significant damage, fading, or missing detail. You can always decide on restoration later.
How are my original photos handled?
Original photos are handled carefully and respectfully throughout the process. They are never altered, trimmed, or modified in any way, and are returned in the same condition they were received. Digitizing allows you to preserve and share images without continued handling of the originals.
What resolution do you scan at?
Photos are scanned at resolutions appropriate for long-term preservation, high-quality printing, and detailed viewing. Most prints are digitized at 600 DPI or higher, which is more than sufficient for archiving and reprinting.
Slides and negatives are scanned using professional-grade, high-resolution flatbed and film scanners at optical resolutions of up to 4800 DPI, capturing as much detail as the original film contains. This produces archival-quality digital files suitable for enlargement, cropping, and long-term use without the need for rescanning.
Different formats require different scanning approaches, and settings are adjusted for each image to balance detail, color accuracy, and file size.
How will I receive my digitized photos?
Your digitized images are delivered as standard digital files that can be viewed on computers, phones, and tablets. Files can be provided via download, cloud delivery, or external media depending on your preference and project size.
Can I choose which photos get restored later?
Yes. Many clients start by digitizing their entire collection, then select only a few important images for restoration afterward. This keeps costs manageable while still preserving everything digitally.
Do you keep copies of my photos after delivery?
Digital files are retained temporarily during the project to ensure successful delivery. Once your files have been delivered and confirmed, long-term storage is not guaranteed unless specifically requested.
How long does the digitizing process take?
Turnaround time depends on the number of photos and formats involved. Smaller projects may be completed quickly, while larger collections take more time. You’ll have a clear expectation of timing before work begins.
